Who We Are

We are a community of people committed to celebrating the glory of God through lives transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are deeply humbled by Christ's work for us and overwhelmed by His continued pursuit of us. As for us, we are poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for us. (Psalm 40:17)

Why We Exist

We exist to glorify God by treasuring Jesus Christ above all things. We exist to spread a passion for Godward worship by the proclamation and application of the gospel of Jesus Christ. One of the ways to achieve this is to provide rich, gospel-centered resources that both inform and excite our adoration of Christ.

Pastoral Staff

I was born in Westminster, CA in 1978 and was raised in Orange County along with my two younger sisters by our mom. We attended Sunday school as kids and went to midweek studies pretty regularly and I believe I was saved when I was about 8 years old. As I got a little older, school, sports and life in general became a distraction and I drifted from the Lord. In 1995 I attended an outreach with my family and was so convicted by the Holy Spirit that I responded to the invitation to go forward after the message. Unfortunately, I made the same mistake that many believers do- I didn’t pursue my relationship with Jesus by finding a church to plug in to and be discipled. Temptation got the better of me and I lived my teens and early 20’s in rebellion to God. I struggled with all of the things that plague many young men-alcohol, lust and anger-to name a few.

By God’s grace and mercy, I met my wife Lina in 2001 and we were married just under a year later. We failed to find peace in our marriage for the first year and knew that only God could show us how to love each other the way He intended. We began to look for a church home and tried many places before we found Brave Heart in 2007. Since surrendering my life to Christ, He has set me free from the bondage of sin, and has given me as He promises, “life more abundantly” (John 10:10). I believe that God guided every step of my life and has even used the things I experienced while living in rebellion for His good purpose (Prov. 16:9, Romans 8:28).

I am so amazed at the Lord’s grace in allowing me an opportunity to serve at Roots Community Church. There is no doubt that He chooses to use the foolish and weak things to show Himself wise and mighty (1 Cor. 1:25-27)!

I was born and raised in Southern California where I spent most of my younger years growing up in the small town of Yucca Valley. After high school I moved to Orange County to pursue a college degree. My mom, who raised us kids, introduced me to Christ at a young age but unfortunately as life progressed I found myself beginning to shift my attention from creator to creation. Because of this shift I’ve learned my share of tough lessons along the way. Today I live with the realization that it is by God’s grace alone that I stand redeemed and forgiven.

I finished school and have enjoyed serving at Roots Community Church along side my wife. My wife and I share the same passion for the gospel and enjoy telling others about the grace we have received. It is the love of Christ that compels us. (2 Corinthians 5:14)

By the grace of God I was saved at a young age and I have been walking with the Lord ever since. Music was always a big part of my life but when I was in junior high I really started to feel the call towards the ministry. The Lord began to give me opportunities, in my local church, to share original music as well as lead worship for the youth group. By the time I went to bible college in Murrietta California in 2003 it was very apparent to me that the music ministry was the Lord’s plan for my life. In 2004 I was a founding member of the group “Shachah” (and we are still active to this day). We have had the opportunity to travel all over the states, as well as the world, leading people in worship and sharing the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. I most recently completed a new album with my band “Brenden McPeek and The Soul Reformation”. This project has given me the opportunity to connect with many local christian musicians. My vision is to inspire and encourage the body of Christ to find freedom and creativity in musical style within the worship context.

I now have the pleasure and honor of attending and serving at Roots Community Church. I have been at Roots for over 3 years now and it is truly my home. My desire for corporate worship is that we would worship our Lord as we have been commanded to, “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23). This is exemplified by “Vertical Worship” which is not only an event we host, it is a philosophy of life. We were all created to worship and we ALL practice this reality daily. My prayer is that we would offer our worship upward to The Creator, The one true and living God. He is the only one who is worthy of it and the only one who can handle it. I am humbled by the opportunity to lead God’s people in worship and I look forward to worshiping with you very soon.

A Consensus Re: Sanctification

The topic of sanctification has been a point of theological tension, and in some cases contention, for centuries. The tension usually comes about when biblical churches are reading the Scriptures deeply and discover what appears to be conflict between the “already and not yet” reality of the Christian. For instance, the Bible teaches that we

We’ve Moved!

Well, for the summer at least. Killybrooke Elementary (our church home for  the last year and a half) is doing some major tenant improvements throughout the campus and is unable to host us for the summer. In God’s providence however, some doors opened for us through the kind staff at Costa Mesa High School to
